SUMMARY:Digital Product Design at The Globe and Mail
LOCATION:U of T\, 40 St George Street\, Bahen Room 1230 (main floor)
DESCRIPTION:https://torchi.org/event-467383\n\n \n Update: Craig's presentation now posted on slideshare:http://www.slideshare.net/csaila/producing-pixels/\n \n \n PRESENTER: Craig Saila\, Director of Digital Products at The Globe and Mail\n \n The growing chorus declaring the death of newspapers speaks the truth. And nowhere is that more true than at Canada’s national newspaper\, The Globe and Mail.\n \n The company has been radically transformed by a simple premise: the core product isn’t the daily newspaper\, but rather the hundreds of news stories The Globe produces every single day. By concentrating on the journalism\, The Globe has seen its business improve in almost every relevant metric. And\, notably\, it’s allowed the company to approach digital in an entirely fresh way.\n \n Craig Saila\, Director of Digital Products\, will talk specifically about how The Globe is approaching digital product design. Using an election\, a couple of deaths\, a spreadsheet or two\, and a few of mobile apps as examples\, he’ll talk about what has worked\, what has failed\, and how Post-it Notes have made a mess of the traditional design process.\n \n If there are other topics around the Globe’s digital design process (product\, UX\, interaction or anything else)\, ask the question of Craig on Twitter (@saila) using the hashtag #TorCHI and we’ll discuss it at the talk.\n \n
